INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Kyle Albertson, an FFA alumnus and Purdue University graduate, shared how FFA prepared him for a career in business despite having congenital muscular dystrophy.
Albertson has been using drones to assist farmers in applying pesticides, a venture he started
during his time at Purdue.
“FFA played a big part,” Albertson said, emphasizing the camaraderie and support he received from his peers, which helped him pursue his interests despite obstacles.
Albertson explained that having congenital muscular dystrophy since infancy has shaped his approach to challenges, finding ways to participate alongside his friends in activities.
His involvement in FFA provided a network of support that he continues to rely on.
During his junior year at Purdue, Albertson discovered a company selling spray drones, which inspired him to buy one and start his own business in 2020.
His venture has seen significant growth, doubling its acreage each year.
Albertson noted the advantages of using drones over traditional crop dusters, particularly in areas difficult to reach due to safety concerns.
Drones offer a safer alternative for applying pesticides in tight or inaccessible areas.
Albertson’s journey underscores the potential for innovation in agriculture through technology, and the Unified Horticulture Career Development event seeks to empower more students to pursue their passions despite challenges.
