EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Police Department is warning residents to be aware of fake GoFundMe accounts that appear to be using the Young Park shooting in Las Cruces to scam residents. Police say they have discovered several fake GoFundMe accounts that are currently circulating onl ine after last Friday's shooting at Young Park in Las Cruces. Doña Ana County district attorney says juvenile suspects in Las Cruces shooting can be charged as adults Those who wish to donate are encouraged to properly vet or evaluate the source before donating, police said. Anyone with information on illegitimate crowdfunding platforms should report those accounts through the platform's reporting process. The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico has established a legitimate fundraising initiative to help victims and their families.
