(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said on Sunday, March 23 officers responding to a shots-fired call led to a standoff with the suspect in a red SUV in eastern Colorado Springs.
According to CSPD, on Sunday at around 11 a.m., officers were called to the 300 bloc
k of North Circle Drive between East Platte Avenue and East Bijou Street. Officers' investigation revealed a disturbance had taken place at the location and a suspect, later identified as Jairo Fernandez-Vasquez fired a handgun and had taken off in a red Dodge SUV.

At around 12:15 p.m., police found the SUV in the 4500 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue near E. Platte Ave. and North Academy Boulevard. The SUV had two people inside, one of whom was safely removed from the vehicle. The other suspect was allegedly Fernandez-Vasquez who refused to exit the SUV.
At around 2 p.m. police were able to take Fernandez-Vasquez into custody on weapons-related charges. CSPD said a stolen gun was recovered from the vehicle and Fernandez-Vasquez was taken to the hospital for treatment. ...read more read less
