(CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo.)— A Colorado Springs man eluded police but could not escape the radio and was arrested for speeding down a road near Nathrop.
On Friday, March 21, a Chaffee County Sheriff's Office deputy was performing routine traffic enforcement on Highway 285 when he observed a car tr
aveling southbound at a high rate of speed. The deputy clocked the car at 125 mph using his radar.
According to the sheriff's office, the deputy attempted to stop the car but it eluded him passing vehicles on the shoulder of the highway in a reckless manner. Due to the high risk of danger to other motorists, the deputy terminated the pursuit but radioed ahead to other officers asking them to watch for the car.
A few moments later, the car was located on Highway 50 by a Salida Police Officer who was able to get the car to pull over and took the driver into custody.
“This was a classic example of how you can’t outrun the radio," the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office said. "Deputy Smith did a great job of getting a dangerous driver off the streets while minimizing the risk to the innocent motorists traveling along the highway with their families. Our strong working relationship with the Salida Police Department was also on display as they assisted with this arrest.”
