Charleston PD and BCSO partner to perform traffic operation; 4 arrested

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office and Charleston Police Department recently partnered for a joint traffic enforcement operation to crack down on unsafe driving.
Authorities targeted several problem areas, focusing on Clements Ferry Road, St. Thomas Island Drive
, Reflectance Drive, SC-41, Cainhoy Road, and Charity Church Road.
Deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office issued 87 citations, including for driving without a South Carolina driver's license, driving under suspension, expired tags, seatbelt violations, disregarding a traffic control device, following too closely, no proof of insurance, failure to return a suspended tag, texting and driving, and careless driving.
They also handed out 42 warnings and made four arrests for habitual traffic offenders, driving under suspension 3rd or subsequent offense, and a fugitive from justice for a warrant out of Ohio for child neglect.
Charleston police officers issued 49 citations during the operation. Those violations were for speeding, driving under suspension, vehicle license plate violations, unregistered motor vehicle, no proof of insurance, and illegal median use.
"Traffic concerns have been the number one complaint from our citizens. Safety is a top priority for us," Sheriff Duane Lewis stated. "By working alongside the Charleston Police Department, we can effectively target dangerous driving behaviors and reduce accidents." ...read more read less
