Seemingly fearless insult comic Nikki Glaser has a “real fear” of joking about politics under the Trump administration.

id reviews. But Glaser told reporters on Sunday the possible consequences of roasting people in power during the current political climate in the U.S. is no laughing matter.
According to Glaser, it’s not censorship or the specter of “cancel culture” that concerns her.
“I’m at the point now that if I don’t say something political, it’s because I’m scared to,” Glaser said on the red carpet of the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize, The Hill posted online.
During his first term in office, President Trump repeatedly suggested the long-running NBC comedy program “Saturday Night Live” should be investigated.
After he was re-elected in 2024 and staffed his cabinet with MAGA loyalists, including FBI Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi, comedians including Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O’Donnell relocated to Europe.
O’Donnell — who Trump has insulted at a presidential debate and during an Oval Office press event — said she’ll return to the U.S. “when it’s safe.”
Avoiding political hot-button issues up to this point wasn’t too hard for Glazer— she believed she was “too angry” and “too uninformed” to approach such topics in the past. While Glaser said what’s going these days in the U.S. is “cartoonish” and worthy of ridicule, there are other reasons she chooses her words wisely.
“You just are scared that you’re going to get doxxed and death threats, or who knows where this leads?” Glaser said. “Like, detained.” ...read more read less
