Metro to open early for Cherry Blossom 5K, 10mile run as thousands expected to attend

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- In less than two weeks, runners will take on the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile, 5K and Kids Run in Washington, D.C.
To ensure spectators and participants get to the race on time, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) announced Monday that it
will open two hours early on race day, April 6.
Officials said Metrorail will start running at 5 a.m. on Sunday. All trains will run with normal services and arrive about every four minutes.

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile, 5K and Kids Run race begins at 7:30 a.m. It draws over 17,000 runners to the nation's capital and takes participants on a journey through the District.
Runners will pass the National Monument, Tidal Basin, Lincoln Memorial Circle and more during the race.
Metro said the closest station to the start and finish lines will be the Smithsonian Station on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines.
Attendees can take the Blue, Orange and Silver lines to the Federal Triangle Station, which is about a 12-minute walk to the start line, or the Blue, Orange, Silver, Green or Yellow lines to L'Enfant Plaza, which is a 19-minute walk to the start line.
