(KRON) – Governor Gavin Newsom announced “record-breaking” $76 million worth of grants to more than 300 California community groups to protect nonprofits and houses of worship from violence on Monday.  Newsom’s office in partnership with the State Legislature created California State Nonpr ofit Security Grant Program, which provided funding for target hardening and other physical security enhancements to nonprofit organizations for a decade. The groups are at high risk for violent attacks and hate crimes due to ideology, beliefs, or mission.  This year's grant amount surpassed the most awarded, according to Newsom.
