Sentencing begins for group involved in fatal driveby shooting of 5yearold

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Sentencing has begun for those involved in a 2013 drive-by shooting death of a 5-year-old girl in southwest Albuquerque. Police say five-year-old Galilea Samaniego was asleep in her home when she was shot and killed after four suspects under the age of 18 at the time,
and a 19-year-old girl, fired shots into the home.

According to court records the group was targeting another teen who lived at the address. 15-year old Alexander Barraza, 16-year-old Yahir Carballo, 17-year-old Jose Luis Ramirez and 15-year-old Alan Ramirez all pleaded guilty to first degree murder, they face a maximum of 20 years in prison. Sencheray Hernandez was also with the group during the shooting, but did not fire at the home. She pleaded guilty to several charges and faces up to eight years.
Judge David Murphy sentenced Jose Luis Ramirez and Alan Ramirez to 20 years behind bars. The other suspects are scheduled to be sentenced Monday afternoon. ...read more read less
