Providence Place Mall announces enhancements to security

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Place Mall has announced the implementation of enhanced security measures including controlled Skybridge access, a Youth Guidance Program and the search for a “top-tier security service provider.”
These new measures are part of a plan aimed at “revit
alizing the mall and reinforcing its position as a premier destination in downtown Providence,” according to a statement from a Providence Place Mall representative.
Other facets of the new security plan include a third-party security audit, increased hours for security personnel, CCTV system upgrades and an updated code of conduct, which can be found here.
The updated code of conduct includes expelling underaged guests during school hours, banning congregations that obstruct walkways or create a hazard and forbidding free speech activity not authorized in advance.
“The safety and well-being of our community are our top priorities,” said John Dorsey, Receiver of Providence Place Mall.
“These extra safety measures and improvements reflect our dedication to creating a secure and welcoming environment for everyone who visits and works at the mall.”
The controlled access to the Skybridge entails the installation of new doorways on the mall side of the structure.
“This measure will better regulate access and enhance safety in this area, coupled with increased security personnel foot patrols and upgraded security cameras,” according to the statement.
The Youth Guidance Program calls for youth under the age of 18 to be accompanied by an adult of 21 years of age or older after 5 p.m.
This policy applies specifically to common areas, but may vary by store and restaurant and is effective March 24.
The mall also reinforced its policy of collaboration with the Providence Police Department in addressing trespassing issues.
Mall parking garage repairs are also expected to be completed during spring of 2025, including replacement of gates and payment kiosks.
