PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Springfield, Mass. man has pleaded guilty to robbing a Smithfield bank in 2023 of $2,420 in cash, according to the Rhode Island United States Attorney’s Office.
Radelle Hubbard, 47, pleaded guilty to one charge of bank robbery in U.S. District Court on Friday, admitt
ing to his role in the March 23, 2023 robbery.
The incident occurred when Hubbard entered the bank branch inside a Smithfield supermarket and told tellers “I have a gun, give me all the large bills from your drawer.”
At this time, tellers gave him $2,420 in cash and Hubbard fled from the bank and supermarket.
Bank tellers told arriving police that they did not see Hubbard’s supposed firearm.
A bystander followed Hubbard from the bank and obtained his vehicle description and license plate number, providing it to investigators.
Massachusetts State Police troopers later spotted the car and attempted a traffic stop, at which time Hubbard accelerated.
Hubbard’s vehicle was ultimately stopped by the placement of spike strips, and he was taken into custody by police who discovered a high-capacity firearm and $2,341 in cash in his car.
Hubbard will be sentenced by a federal judge on June 24, 2025.
