NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The cause of a fire at a French Quarter business is under investigation by the New Orleans Fire Department. NOFD officials report that at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, March 24, they were alerted of a fire in the 1000 block North Rampart Street at the American Townhouse restaurant. Boil water advisory lifted for Lutcher Responding firefighters arrived at 2:34 a.m. and two workers directed them to where the fire originated, an exterior stairwell in the back of the building, according to NOFD. A second alarm was called at 2:38 a.m. after firefighters noticed the fire's potential to spread to exposed buildings. Restaurant workers told NOFD officials that around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, a small fire was found under the stairs leading to the dining room but was suppressed by the owner. Four wounded following separate Orleans Parish shootings A total of 16 NOFD units carrying 43 personnel were able to get the fire under control by 3:39 a.m. The flames caused "considerable damage" to the back of the building and the dining room. The restaurant was closed during the incident and injuries were reported.
