WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Portions of State Road 32 in Westfield will close in early April for several months of road construction, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced Monday. Starting on April 7, INDOT contractors will begin work on the 32 Connects project. Construction will take place in stages, the project is expected to be finished sometime in 2026. The project will add a roundabout at the intersection of State Road 32 and East Street. Workers will reconstruction the corridor between Poplar Street and Union Street and improve crosswalks, signs, and landscaping in the area. State Road 32 west of Union Street and the southern half of the state road east of Union Street will be reconstructed this year. The northern portion east of Union Street will be done in 2026. INDOT says the goal of the 32 Connects program is to improve safety and mobility. During construction, officials are reminding drivers to slow down, avoid distractions and use extra caution in work zones. 32 Connects closures on or after April 7: S.R. 32 closed between Poplar Street and Union Street for reconstruction. Official detour: U.S. 31 and S.R. 38 S.R. 32/Poplar Street/Shamrock Blvd. roundabout remains open Reopening in early October. Union Street closed south of Penn Street to north of Jersey Street. Official detour: 181st Street/Hoover Street, Sun Park Drive, S.R. 32, Wheeler Road/Westfield Park Drive, and 169th Street Reopening in late June.
