FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A man charged with murder is accused of shooting his girlfriend multiple times during an argument Saturday before driving off in her car.
A witness, who told police she was
a friend of the victim, said the woman had been called to the witness' house on Wildwood Avenue that evening to get her boyfriend. The man, 53-year-old Michael Miles, had allegedly been drinking to the point of becoming intoxicated, according to Allen Superior Court documents filed Monday.
The friend told police she briefly went upstairs while Miles was on the phone with the victim, and that's when she heard gunshots.
When she came back downstairs, Miles was gone.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and saw the victim drive up to the house in a Jeep Renegade shortly before 6:30 p.m. The woman brought Miles back to the car, and less than a minute later, Miles allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the woman in the head, according to court documents.
Although the woman fell to the ground, unresponsive in the middle of the street, Miles continued shooting her "several more times," according to court documents.
In a camouflage outfit and dark-colored baseball cap, Miles was then caught on camera taking the victim's keys and driving away in her Jeep.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released to the public, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A few hours after the shooting, police found and arrested Miles. His family members had told officers Miles was sitting in a parked truck, harming himself.
The family also said Miles admitted he had been arguing with the victim and he "had enough," shooting her four times, according to court documents. Miles also allegedly told his family he left the Jeep parked somewhere on Lillie Street and left the gun inside.
Miles was given medical treatment before being cleared to stay in the Allen County Jail. He faces a preliminary murder charge with a gun enhancement. ...read more read less
