(WPDE) — As of Monday morning, the Covington Drive fire is 80% contained and remains at 2,059 acres, according to the S.C. Forestry Commission.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission has issued a statewide burn ban for North and South Carolina until further notice.
On Monday, crews will c
ontinue to monitor, patrol and mop-up around the fire area.
Mastication crews will continue operations in the morning and focus on the southern edge of the fire.
Officials said the chipping work should be finished by the end of the week.
On Sunday, officials said firefighters faced smoldering fire and flare-ups during mop-up operations.
Officials said the update sent by SCFC on Monday morning will be the last update for the Covington Drive fire until officials report the fire as fully contained or ‘if any significant events occur.’
The air quality is moderate today, but conditions can vary in certain areas due to wind and location.
Officials said if you don’t smell or see smoke, it’s safe to open windows.
They said those sensitive to smoke should consider limiting outdoor activities and move indoors if symptoms arise.
