COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Ohio is one of the top 10 most successful states when it comes to professional and college sports, according to a new study. High 5 Casino, an online gaming platform, compiled historical sports data to find out which states’ teams have won the most championship games. The study took into account five professional leagues, including the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and MLS, as well as two college sports: NCAA football and basketball. Championship games include contests such as the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup and World Series, and the data dates to when each competition officially started. According to the study, Ohio is the 10th most successful state in sports. The Buckeye State has won 16 championships, including three MLS Cup finals, the third highest out of all the states, and seven World Series, the sixth highest out of all the states.  California took the No. 1 spot with 63 championship wins. The Golden State's teams have secured a record-breaking nine Super Bowl victories. California also topped the states for the most titles in MLS (nine) and NCAA basketball (15). California was followed by New York, which boasted 57 championship wins, as well as Massachusetts (41), Pennsylvania (33), Michigan (32), Illinois (26), Florida (20), Texas (18) and Missouri (16). ...read more read less
