OBERLIN, Kan. (KSNW) - A sheriff in northwest Kansas is urging drivers to slow down after recently issuing three excessive speeding tickets.
"I figured my post a few days ago about the high-speed driver I stopped would be a one-off, because we don't generally see those high speeds out here that o
ften. However, now I'm wondering if there is a 'Hold My Beer' button on Facebook, because yesterday, I stopped two more drivers on our local two-lane highways for excessive(!) speed," Sheriff Wachendorfer with the Decatur County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook.
Driving on two-lane highways requires caution, especially in the country.
"TWO-LANE country highways, with gentle rolling hills, curves, draws, and cross traffic at least every mile. Come over a hill or out of a draw at 102 mph to a tractor pulling onto the highway, and there is almost no way that outcome is going to be pretty," the sheriff wrote.
As seen in the pictures below, the two tickets that were issued on Saturday were for drivers speeding on U.S. Highway 83 in 65 mph zones. One was for going 93 mph, 28 over the speed limit. The other was for 102, which is 37 over.

"PLEASE SLOW DOWN!!! YOU ARE NOT ON THE AUTOBAHN. Driving 90's and 100's+ on our local highways will get you nothing but a ride in an ambulance or blue lights in your rearview mirror," he said. "Oh, and our local judge won't be very happy to see you either. He drives on these highways too."
Sheriff Wachendorfer also noted that one of the citations he handed out was to a local resident who drives on the roads often. ...read more read less
