Colleen M. Driscoll: We need to continue to work together with Canada
Mar 24, 2025
Dear Editor,Canada, Vermont’s neighboring country, and the United States, have long worked with each other for the benefit of both. Good relations between the two, plus Mexico, have been a hallmark of our mutual relations, trade and otherwise. It is important for the U.S. economy and security that
we continue to work together. Americans should think of how we would react if Canada tried to claim us as their territory.I have traveled to Canada more times than I can count. Three of my grandparents were born in Canada, and although later they became American citizens, we often visited relatives in both Ontario and Quebec. I have worked on common issues with the Canadian government a number of times. For me, our relationship with our neighbor is a natural part of life. Canadians now feel slighted by us, their neighbor. I believe that we, as Vermonters and U.S. citizens, should use our voices to tell Canadians that we respect them and want to continue being friends.Colleen M.
