San Diego begins Mission Bay Drive resurfacing in Pacific Beach

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The City of San Diego is alerting drivers to plan ahead as road work is taking place on a busy section of Mission Bay Drive in Pacific Beach through next week.
Crews with the City of San Diego this week began a resurfacing project on a 2 lane-mile segment of Mission
Bay Drive near Garnet Avenue.

City Mill and Pave teams will be resurfacing portions of Mission Bay Drive, with work on some sections planned for nighttime to minimize traffic impacts and maximize efficiency.

The City says Mill and Pave is unlike Slurry Seal as it involves removing around 2.5 inches of asphalt (the milling process), then applying about 3 inches of new asphalt, which is compressed to restore road strength and smoothness.

Mission Bay Drive was identified for resurfacing based on its Pavement Condition Index (PCI) score of 27.4, which is considered "very poor," and its role as a highly traveled corridor, according to the City. ...read more read less
