VTA announces new offer to union employees as strike enters 3rd week
Mar 23, 2025
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- In just a couple of hours, union workers with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will officially be on their third week of being on strike. All light rail lines and bus routes are grounded as employees strike over several issues they have with the VTA, i
ncluding wanting higher wages.
On Sunday, the VTA announced it is presenting the union with a new offer. Top leadership with the VTA announced it is increasing the wage increase for union employees with ATU Local 265.

The union, which represents 1,500 employees, has been striking for nearly three weeks over disagreements with a new contract.
The new contract would give employees an 11 percent raise over three years. The first contract proposal offered 9 percent. A new offer last week proposed a 10.5 percent raise. It's just a half-percentage raise, but the VTA says this is significant.
The union also says the VTA’s new offer opens up new issues -- saying in recent negotiations the union asked the VTA to sign an agreement that guarantees no striking employees will be reprimanded upon returning to work.

The union tells KRON4 that the vote on the VTA's latest proposal will likely take place Monday or Tuesday and in all likelihood will fail. That means at least a couple more days of this strike.
