The city of
Holyoke, a community steeped in Irish pride became a symphony of green and revelry! A vibrant display of culture and heritage.
Justin Laporte of Springfield told 22News what the parade means to him, "People having fun, and getting together and having fun, and being close to one another."
Thousands of people lined the city streets on Sunday as the parade stretched into downtown, proudly led by Parade Marshals and contingents representing each community within the region.
"It very much feels like being at home!," expressed Ireland's Ambassador to the United States, Geraldine Byrne Nason. "Great music, great dance, great Irish spirt!"
And, of course the floats. The inventive moving sculptures captivating children as they drive by.
Every year the 22News team has the honor of sponsoring and walking in the parade. It's their chance to practice the 'Colleen Wave', but the actual Colleens have it perfected.
"Its just that one event that I feel like every year brings so many communities together," said 22News Anchor Ciara Speller. "We are all so proud to be celebrating western Massachusetts."
And, what's an Irish parade without the sounds of high school marching bands? Or the exceptional footwork of Irish step dancers? All making this parade one of the most highly anticipated celebrations in the region.
This is year is an extra special one for our 22News station as we mark the final parade for our long time morning anchor Rich Tettemer, after decades of covering this beloved event.
"Thank you so much for watching we hope you appreciate as well," said Tettemer.
The parade is made possible thanks to the Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade Committee who work year round to keep this tradition going.
"We are trying to bring all the cultures together and celebrate all of the cultures," expressed 2025 Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade President John Beaulieu. "There's a sense of pride and honor to be here in western Massachsuetts"
So, if you're Irish…or just Irish for the day, nothing brings people together like this celebration!'Sláinte!' to another unforgettable parade season!
