Lobos season ends with loss to Michigan State in round of 32

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The historic season for the UNM men's basketball season has come to an end. The Lobos fell to Michigan State 63-71 in the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament on Sunday night.
The entire first half of the game belonged to the Lobos. No. 10 UNM jumped out to a quick 7-0
run to start the game and grew its lead to as many as 10.
The No. 2 seeded Spartans then held strong on defense and held New Mexico to just one field goal in the last nine minutes of the half. UNM led 31-29 at the break. The Lobos led wire-to-wire in the first half.
In the second half, the game belonged to Michigan State. The Spartan defense remained stout and its offense picked up the pace. MSU took its first lead less than two minutes into the second half.
UNM center Nelly Junior Joseph got into foul trouble midway through the second half and Michigan State took advantage. With Jr. Joseph on the bench, the Spartan lead grew to 9. He reentered the game at 3:50 and fouled out in less than a minute.
Three Lobos finished the game in double-figures. Nelly Jr Joseph led the way with 16 points. Donovan Dent and Mustapha Amzil each had 14. Jaden Akins led MSU with 16.
As a team, UNM shot 27-56 (48.2%) from the field and 4-13 (30.8%) from three. The Lobos also shot 5-10 from the free throw line.
Michigan State shot 24-54 (44.4%) from the field. The Spartans out-rebounded the Lobos 34-28 and recorded 7 blocks.
UNM finished the season with a 27-8 overall record. ...read more read less
