RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Sunday, March 23 marked the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" speech at St. John's Church.
Hundreds of Virginians gathered at the site where Henry delivered those words. Some individuals were there to attend the annual reenactment of He
nry's speech, while others stood outside the church rallying against what they believe is tyranny from the White House.

Demonstrators drew inspiration from Henry's speech for their protest, connecting his plea for liberty to their own concerns about threats to democracy.
Organizers called the demonstration, "250 Years of No Kings in America." In a promotional flyer they compared the historical opposition to King George III to modern-day resistance to Trump, with the flyer reading, “We resisted King George. We will resist Trump.”
"I think the timing couldn't have been better that we had the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry's give me liberty or give me death speech, because I mean, that's what I encourage all Americans to demonstrate... we are going to demand our liberty at all costs," said Felix Gostel, who joined the rally.
The rally was also organized to coincide with Governor Glenn Youngkin's attendance at the reenactment, where demonstrators protested against what they say is an abuse of power by President Trump. However, people were also directing concerns to Governor Youngkin as well.
Senator Ghazala Hashmi was seen at the protest, and gave a brief speech encouraging demonstrators to make their voices heard.
"These are our rights to express our discontent with the directions of this country, to make sure that we send a message to Washington DC, to Trump and Musk and especially Glenn Youngkin," Hashmi said.
As Gov. Youngkin left the event he was met with a crowd of protestors, in which his press secretary sent 8news a statement about the rally saying in part quote,
"Today’s event celebrated the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry’s immortal words. The Governor hopes all Americans fully appreciate the sacrifice of those patriots from Virginia and the other colonies who fought to secure the liberties we enjoy today - including the right to peacefully protest.”
