WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser stood beside former Washington Nationals infielder Ryan Zimmerman outside Nationals Park on Sunday morning to unveil the team's new "District Blueprint" City Connect uniform.
The denim-colored jersey commemorates the team's 20th season in Washi
ngton, D.C., and encapsulates the District, depicting the city's street grid in gray.
The sleeve of the jersey has a circle patch that reads "The District of Columbia," with two of D.C.'s beloved cherry blossoms and a stylized block W. The uniquely designed W is precisely shaped to reflect the outline of one of the country's most famous man-made landmarks, the Capitol Dome.

The light blue caps also feature the stylized W, with pink cherry blossoms anchoring each side.
In addition, the uniform features mosaic detailing on the pants and sleeves to represent D.C.'s diversity "and how its residents come together to form a beautiful, cohesive work of art," according to the team's website. The detailing is colored in shades of blue, gray, black and pink.
"These uniforms truly are for the people of D.C.," said Zimmerman. "They [the jerseys] represent how baseball has become part of the fabric of this city, how the city's energy runs through our veins, and how baseball has the power to bring everyone together."
The jerseys will debut during opening day weekend (March 29 and March 30) at Nationals Park, when the team plays the Philadelphia Phillies.
