ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) - Since Thursday, thousands of letter carriers across the nation have come together, rallying against a proposal made by President Donald Trump to allegedly overhaul the United States Postal Service.
Local workers upset with the announcement took to the United States Postal
Service on Jefferson Rd. in Henrietta on Sunday.

Many letter carriers have also expressed their concerns with Postmaster General Louis Dejoy's letter to Congress on March 13, announcing his plans to work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, to address his concerns with the agency.
One concern circulating among letter carriers is the privatization of the agency, which President of Rochester's Chapter of the National Letter Carriers' Association Monique Mate says could be problematic.
"That would be quite devastating, not only to the workers but to the whole United States, all our customers," Mate said.
Mate and many other local letter carriers said they are worried privatization could lead to job cuts and postage price hikes.
"There's about 51 million rural addresses which private companies do not deliver to. If the postal service were to be privatized, the prices for delivering to these addresses could go up or they may not even get delivery," Mate said.
At Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick's swearing-in ceremony in February, President Trump said his administration's suggestion to pursue these changes comes from wanting to improve the postal service and to better manage finances within the agency.
Mate explained how an overhaul of USPS could impact everyone who receives or sends mail.
"It starts with the postal workers. If they cut delivery days, then they don't need as many of us," Mate said. "But then it trickles down to the local businesses and the price that they would have to pay, along with our customers."
None of the suggestions made by the President or his administration are definitive yet. However, President Trump has discussed making changes to the postal service since his last presidency, during which he appointed a task force to specifically focus on postal reform. ...read more read less
