The Spurs will face a gauntlet of playoff teams to finish out the season, but tonight, they face the struggling Raptors in Toronto Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for a
ll you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
In an unusual quirk of the schedule, the Spurs face the Toronto Raptors for the first time this year on the 70th game of the season, when both teams are pretty much eliminated from the post-season. Their only other meeting this year will be on April 13 in San Antonio on the final game of the regular season, and barring anything strange happening, the final game for both teams.
The Spurs management has embraced the tank this season, with both De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama out of the lineup until next season, but the players didn’t read the memo, as they’ve managed to put together some fun wins lately, and are on a two game win streak with wins over the Knicks and Sixers. They could make it three in a row tonight, which might be the high point in the last 13 games, since all of the remaining games are against teams with post-season aspirations, except for the season-ender against the Raptors.
Tonight, Jakob Poeltl and Immanuel Quickly are out for rest, although the Raptors haven’t played since Thursday night in a 114-117 loss to the Warriors. Brandon Ingram is also out with an ankle sprain, and this looks like a game the Raptors are committed to losing, and the Spurs should take advantage tonight, although it’s not a sure thing for this inconsistent squad on the road. It’s a good opportunity to give Blake Wesley some run at point, and see if he can continue to improve his offensive efficiency while keeping up his defensive intensity. It will be another night for Stephon Castle to pad his stats while he’s putting the Rookie of the Year award out of reach for the other contenders. Let’s watch and see how it goes.
Game Prediction:
Chris Paul will have too many turnovers because of greasy fingers from poutine during the pregame meal.
One final word:
GO SPURS GOOOO!!!
