FOUNTAIN COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police seized approximately 25 grams of fentanyl during a traffic stop in Fountain County. According to a press release, a trooper conducted the traffic stop while patrolling Interstate 74 around 1 a.m. on Saturday. The trooper initially stopped the driver of a 2015 Mercedes C350 for speeding near mile marker 10. While talking with the driver during the stop, the trooper observed signs of criminal activity. The trooper then obtained consent to search the vehicle from its driver. Per a release, the trooper found substances suspected to be fentanyl and marijuana. The trooper also located drug paraphernalia during the stop. The recovered substance suspected to be fentanyl was sent to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for testing. The driver of the Mercedes was arrested during the traffic stop. ISP identified the suspect at 36-year-old Jerrell James of Muncie. James was booked at the Fountain County Jail following his arrest. He now faces five preliminary charges: Possession of a narcotic drug — Level 4 Felony Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a passenger under 18 years of age — Level 6 Felony Possession of marijuana — Class B Misdemeanor Operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance — Class C Misdemeanor Possession of drug paraphernalia — Class C Misdemeanor James' arrest was part of a large targeted patrol ISP conducted in Fountain and Warren Counties on March 21 and 22.
