AUSTIN (KXAN) -- As we enter the final full week of March, several big storms are on the horizon. This forecast covers the period from March 23 to March 30. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted multiple states across the Deep South and Southern Plains for severe weather Sunday evening. Severe Weather Threat: Sunday evening/overnight This includes the Austin metro area, stretching northeast to Nashville, Tennessee. AUSTIN FORECAST: Today's Forecast From The First Warning Weather Team A strong upper-level trough is moving through the Northern Plains and Midwest today, with scattered thunderstorms developing Sunday afternoon. At the surface, there is plenty of instability, also known as thunderstorm fuel, as dew points are in the mid to upper 60s. Strong wind shear could produce a few rotating storms, but the tornado threat is overall low. The biggest concern is large hail and damaging wind gusts. Clouds and Radar on Sunday evening As the upper trough continues to move eastward on Monday, the severe weather threat will drop substantially through the day on Monday across the Gulf Coast. On Monday evening, snowfall accumulation is expected for Northern New England, with up to 6" of powder in the mountains. Tuesday and Wednesday are fairly quiet across CONUS, with rain chances returning for the Pacific Northwest, as well as the Southern Plains on Thursday. Thursday's Forecast Beyond the next work week, multiple mid-latitude cyclones will continue to deliver mountain snow, heavy rain, and gusty winds.
