Child shot at parking lot carnival in North Carolina, police say

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) -- A child was shot while at an event in Fayetteville Saturday night, police said.
The shooting was reported just after 8:20 p.m. in the 6900 block of Cliffdale Road, according to a Fayetteville Police Department news release late Saturday night.
"This is an active in
vestigation," officers said in a brief statement.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, police said.
The shooting happened at a small fair in the parking lot area of businesses along Cliffdale Road near S. Reilly Road in western Fayetteville.
"The department’s Aggravated Assault Unit is actively investigating this incident," the news release said.

Several Fayetteville police cruisers along with evidence markers were seen in the parking lot near various carnival rides and with businesses in the background.
