(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) quickly put out a grass fire on Saturday, March 22, around 1 p.m. using the help of a cutting-edge drone.
The fire was in the area of Fountain Boulevard and Shasta Drive, near South Circle Drive, and was a half-acre in size. Thoug

CSFD attributed the quick containment of the fire to their drone, which allowed them to track the fire's spread and determine the best actions to take.
In the video player above, you can watch how after the majority of the fire was knocked down, crews made a lap around the perimeter, applying water to cool down hotspots. On the left, you can see the thermal image of the fire, and on the right, a closer look at the crew in action.
If you watch the thermal image closely, you'll notice the red areas, representing hotspots, turning black as soon as the firefighters apply water, almost as if the hotspots are being erased right before your eyes.
CSFD emphasized that this assistance in putting out fires more quickly and safely is why drones are such an important tool for them. ...read more read less
