Experience 'The Shawshank Redemption' magic at Mansfield, Ohio Airbnbs

MANSFIELD, Ohio (WCMH) — Fans of the film “The Shawshank Redemption” can now have a fully immersive experience while visiting the Ohio locations where the movie was shot.
Destination Mansfield has announced that two mid-19th-century houses adjacent to the Ohio State Reformatory, which serve
d as the cult classic's prison set, are available to visitors through Airbnb. According to the tourism organization, the private residences are the former homes of reformatory guards and their families.
“Beautiful restorations of Retro House and Hatlan House have just been completed,” Destination Mansfield said in a news release. “The brick twins offer modern amenities with a charming 1940s vintage vibe.”
One of the short-term rentals includes themed rooms such as “Andy’s Cell” and “Warden Norton’s Office.” Additionally, guests of either accommodation can sip locally roasted Big House Brew coffee provided by the host.

The Airbnb listings for the spaces note that discounted tours of the historic Ohio State Reformatory are included in the stay. Upon booking, renters receive an emailed code for $25 off up to 4 tickets, for any daytime historical tour.
Several “Shawshank” sightseeing opportunities are available in the area, from a 10-stop guided bus tour to a drive-it-yourself Shawshank Trail itinerary. The self-guided route and bus tour link are available at shawshanktrail.com. Destination Mansfield recommends spending two to three days to get the complete experience.
Sixteen different Mansfield-area filming sites are part of the Shawshank Trail, including the Ohio State Reformatory, the Brewer Hotel, the pawn shop window, Brooks’ Bench, and even the grocery store where Brooks and Red bagged groceries. Nearby Malabar Farm State Park hosted the film’s opening scene.
