Mar 22, 2025
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Saturday, March 22, was an exciting day at Washburn, as community members came out to show their support for the men's basketball team and send them off to the Elite Eight in Indiana.
It's been over two decades since the Ichabod's have gone to the Elite Eight. To celebrate this mi
lestone, fans gave the team their continued support before they left for Indiana. Lining up outside Lee Arena, fans of all ages cheered on the team and showed them how proud they are of their accomplishments.
Not only is this experience new for the players but also for one young Ichabod fan.
"It's awesome. It's not something we've done before," Ichabods fan, Grady Rodgers said. "So, it's kind of cool to see everybody show up and show out for the bods and see how they do when they're away from home."
While fans put together signs to show support, one even went the extra mile by painting her face.
"If I paint my face up and go to the games, it shows the kids that I'm there for them," Washburn Graduate, Vonnita Elliot said.
While the tournament has been exciting so far for the Ichabods and their fans, one said that he believes this is just the beginning.
"We're just really excited to cheer on the Ichabods as they make their way to the Elite Eight," Angel Romero said. "It's been an exciting season and it's only getting more exciting I think, as we go."
