Two suspects were arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of a child in Riverside.
The suspects were identified as William Thomas Trader, 55, and Merriam Dogillo, 46, according to the Riverside Police Department.
On Jan. 2, detectives began investigating allegations of the ongoing sexual abuse
of a minor that had been occurring for several years.
Trader was identified as the primary suspect and arrested that same day. He was booked on multiple charges including aggravated sexual assault of a minor and lewd and lascivious acts upon a child under the age of 10.
Police said Trader was also a registered sex offender with a prior conviction for sexual abuse of a minor.
During the investigation, detectives identified Dogillo as a second suspect in the case. Dogillo had since moved out of California. On March 6, with the help of U.S. Marshals, she was located and arrested in New York.
The suspects, William Thomas Trader, 55, and Merriam Dogillo, 46, are seen in photos provided by the Riverside Police Department.
She is awaiting extradition proceedings to be transferred to Riverside County, where she faces multiple counts of sex abuse against a minor.
It's unclear how the suspects are known to the child. No further details were released as the investigation continues.
“Through the meticulous work done by our investigators and METRO team, we were able to identify and arrest two individuals for horrific crimes against children,” said Captain Chad Milby, who oversees the police department’s Investigations Division. “These arrests were the result of extensive collaboration with various units within the police department, victim advocacy organizations, and child protection services. One of the primary objectives of the Riverside Police Department has always been to ensure the safety and well-being of the children involved, and we will continue to offer them every resource available to aid in their healing process.”
Anyone with additional information on the case is urged to contact Detective Vanessa Castillo at 951-353-7609 or email VCCastillo@RiversideCA.gov.
