KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Angie Howell and her family released balloons from their Lexington, Missouri house earlier this week in honor of her late mother’s birthday.
Howell didn’t expect to learn that one of those balloons ended up in Presque Isle, Maine.
“I received a message, and a guy
contacted me, telling me that his father had found a yellow balloon on his farm behind the barn,” Angie Howell said.
“I would have never guessed it would have traveled that far and stayed inflated the whole way.”

The balloons had messages saying, “Happy heavenly birthday, momma.” The balloon found in Maine had the name Dian Howell written on it.
“He sent me a picture, and in parentheses, I put Dian Howell, my mother. I forgot I had done that because I wasn't going to. But then, last minute, I was like, 'You know what? I'm just going to put her name just in case somebody finds the balloon, and somebody found it all the way in Maine, 1500 miles away,'” Howell said.
A family member of the farm owner in Maine found Dian Howell’s obituary online, and that’s how they found her daughter Angie on Facebook.
“It made my heart happy,” Howell said.
“It was an exciting story and something to tell the grandbabies when they get older. I just thought it was awesome.”
The experience was just as rewarding for the person who found the balloon.
“He said, we will be smiling all day. I definitely needed something heartwarming, and your mom was able to do that for me,” Howell said.
“It brought tears to my eyes. It is awesome, but I would have never guessed that It would have traveled that far.” ...read more read less
