The weekend is off to a wonderful start, but fire danger remains high thanks to a warm, windy, and dry setup through Sunday. Highs will soar back into the 60s and 70s across the board to close out the weekend. Clouds will steadily build overnight into Monday as a disturbance approaches from the w
est. We’ll take any rain chances we can get at this point, but don’t expect a washout on Monday. Models are suggesting most of the incoming moisture will get hung up on the western side of the Appalachians, leaving the Piedmont and Foothills with scraps in the morning. Any scattered shower activity we see will likely clear to the east by the afternoon – mostly sunny skies and windy conditions will arrive later in the day, only increasing the fire threat.
The remainder of the week looks lovely. Highs will routinely rise into the 60s and 70s Tuesday through Friday as a strong ridge of high pressure dominates the eastern half of the country. Unfortunately, the fire danger will likely only get higher as we progress through the week. Beyond Monday, our next rain chances don’t arrive until the following weekend.
