TROY, N.Y. (WROC) — The Hornell girls basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss in their first-ever state title game, falling to Cold Spring Harbor 54-50.
Hornell dominated the first half. They opened the game up 10-1, led 14-5 after the first quarter, and 29-17 at halftime.

Harbor got the game into single digits in the third quarter, but the Red Raiders fought back to regain their lead, up 44-32 with seven minutes to play in the game.
Then, things started to fall apart. Cold Spring Harbor went on a 16-4 run, tying the game at 48 with two minutes to play. CSH would take a 50-48 lead on free throws, answered by a bucket by Selena Maldonado to tie the game at 50.
But Olivia Mulada hit a layup with 30 seconds to play to give Cold Spring Harbor the lead and Hornell came up empty on the ensuing possession. Hornell was forced to foul, and Cold Spring Harbor hit a pair of shots to secure the win 54-50. Hornell was outscored 22-8 in the fourth quarter.
"Obviously, it's tough. Big moment, we had high hopes, we played our hearts out," said Hornell head coach Jim Dagon. "Everyone is exhausted right now. I'm super proud of them. It's obviously dissapointing, but we'll use this as fuel."
Jordyn Dyring led Hornell with 16 points. Raegan Evingham had six points and 11 rebounds. Mia Nasca made a trio of three-pointers for 9 points. ...read more read less
