College Wrap: Princeton men’s lacrosse bounces back with big win over Harvard

PRINCETON —The Princeton University men’s lacrosse team got the bounce back performance it was looking for.
Coulter Mackesy scored twice to move within one goal of second all-time and the No. 6-ranked Tigers held on to beat No. 12 Harvard, 13-11, on Saturday afternoon at Sherrerd Field at Class
of 1952 Stadium.
Mackesy’s next goal will be his 146th and move him into a tie for second with Chris Massey. Jesse Hubbard holds the top spot in the program’s storied history with 163 tallies.
Mackesy also had a pair of assists and those four points took him past Hubbard and even with Jon Hess for fourth in career points at 215.
Nate Kabiri, Chad Palumbo and Tucker Wade also had two goals each for Princeton (5-2, 1-1), which needed a victory after dropping its Ivy League opener at Cornell.
The Tigers took control with a 5-0 run in the first quarter after the Crimson (5-2, 1-1) grabbed the opening goal
Jack Speidell paced Harvard with three goals.
Rutgers 11, Johns Hopkins 8
BALTIMORE — Haydn Sommer scored three goals, Cardin Stoller made eight saves and the Scarlet Knights (5-5, 1-0) began Big Ten play with a road victory over the 11th-ranked Blue Jays (6-3, 0-1).
Rutgers trailed, 6-5, after halftime, but scored the game’s next five goals to take the lead. Collin Kelly had two of the five tallies during the run.

LAWRENCEVILLE — PJ Craig struck out eight over five innings, Kyle Neri homered and the Broncs (12-6, 6-2) secured a series victory over the Warriors (5-16-1, 4-4)
Princeton 8, Dartmouth 5
PRINCETON — Jake Kernodle knocked in the go-ahead run with a sixth-inning single, Nick Shenefelt had three hits and three RBIs and the Tigers (4-15, 1-0) got off to a winning start in the Ivy play by edging the Big Green (0-11, 0-1) in the first game of a twinbill.
Denison 8, TCNJ 1
AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Lions (9-7) struck first on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Fernandez in the second inning, but couldn’t muster any offense after that and dropped the final game of the RussMat Invitational to No. 7 Denison (14-3).
TCNJ completed its annual spring trip in Florida with a 6-3 record across the nine games. It picked up victories over the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Illinois Tech, Saint John’s College (two) and Kalamazoo (two). All three of the losses came against ranked opposition in No. 3 Johns Hopkins, No. 4 Endicott and No. 7 Denison. ...read more read less
