North Carolina man in I440 deadly assault in 2023 died from gunshot wound, examiner says

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Office of the North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner released its findings Friday in a 2023 assault on Interstate 440 in Raleigh that left a man dead.
Robert Matthew Williams, 44, of Raleigh was found dead inside a vehicle on westbound I-440 near Wade Ave. on Dec. 17,
2023. The vehicle had crashed into a cement median, according to the medical examiner.
The medical examiner's autopsy, which was conducted four days later, determined Williams died from a gunshot wound to the neck and head. Williams crashed his vehicle after he was shot.
According to the medical examiner, Williams' vehicle had multiple bullet holes, and 9mm shell casings were found on the road.
The medical examiner said Williams' death is classified as a homicide.
