A rockslide is blocking a main route to Yosemite: How long until it's cleared?

MARIPOSA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A rockslide in Mariposa County cut off one of the main entrances to Yosemite late last Monday - after nearly a week of uncertainty surrounding its reopening date, Caltrans has released a possible timeframe.
Although roadwork has yet to begin, road crews an
ticipate having one-way traffic in place before the end of the month.
The closures come after a storm caused a rock face along Highway 140 to crumble; the slide left the roadway impassable in both directions. Caltrans declared an immediate full closure of the roadway, establishing road closures just west of the slide in Briceburg and to the east of the slide at the Yosemite Cedar Lodge.
They have since deployed a team of geotechnical experts to assess the area using 3D drone mapping and other tools. Caltrans says contractors will begin moving the debris and repairing the roadway once the geotechnical experts deem the area safe.
According to Yosemite Park staff, the closure has caused tourists to reroute their plans. It has also potentially weakened one of the main sources of economy for businesses in Mariposa County. ...read more read less
