Body found in Anacostia River identified as missing DC teen

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The body found in the Anacostia River on March 7 was identified as missing 17-year-old Nyair Raymond Wednesday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Police say Raymond was first listed as a Critical Missing Person in January after last being reported
seen by his family on Jan. 15.
After Raymond was reported missing, detectives said they discovered he was the passenger of a stolen vehicle that had attempted to evade police.

MPD said on Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m., officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in the 1500 block of South Capitol Street SW when the driver left the scene, prompting a chase from police.
The vehicle crashed shortly after, with both the driver and passenger running from the scene. Police say the driver was arrested shortly after, but officers were unable to find the passenger, whose identity was unknown to officers at the time.
Raymond's clothing was located on the shoreline of the Anacostia River and his body was later found March 7 in the area of the Frederick Douglass Bridge.
The Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner positively identified the body as Raymond on Wednesday, March 19, but his cause of death remains under investigation. ...read more read less
