'A disgrace': Fresno County supervisor condemns attacks on Tesla dealerships
Mar 21, 2025
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Following recent attacks on Tesla cars and dealerships nationwide, Fresno County Supervisor, Garry Bredefeld says it is "unacceptable in a free society."
In the past week, multiple Teslas were vandalized at a dealership in California. The cars were found with swastik
as spray-painted on them, and several of the windows at the dealership were spray-painted with swastikas and profanity.
That recent incident happened on March 17 in Encinitas. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department says no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made yet.
The attacks on Tesla and dealerships are aimed at the electric car company owned by Elon Musk, as anger is drawn from his work with the Trump administration.
Due to incidents like these, local officials and even the Justice Department are responding to these actions.
Bredefeld says these actions are "politically driven hate crimes that seek to intimidate individuals based on their personal choices."
He says if people want to peacefully demonstrate he supports that right.
Demonstrations against Musk and Tesla have happened nationwide, even in Fresno. More than 100 protesters gathered in north Fresno on March 15 to speak out against Musk's involvement with Trump.
Protestors at that protest said that the authority President Trump granted Musk and said he is a "threat to democracy."
Bredefeld says he supports those who protest peacefully but wants people who are committing acts of violence to be held accountable.
"They need to be thrown in jail. They need to be made an example of. We should never allow violence to enter our political disagreements or discourse," Bredefeld said.
Bredefeld says they are never going to accept violence and never are going to accept people attacking a private business or dealership because they disagree with the owner's politics. He says people attacking dealerships is a disgrace.
"The violence against a car dealership, because these radicals don't like his [Musk's] politics or the fact that he is trying to root out corruption and evil throughout the government, is a disgrace," he said.
Bredefeld is now calling on all local officials- regardless of party affiliation to join him in unequivocally condemning these attacks as he says that staying silent is being complicit.
