Suspect in Towne East shooting cannot withdraw plea, judge decides

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The person convicted of a deadly shooting at Towne East Square Mall in 2022 cannot withdraw his plea. That's the decision made by a Sedgwick County district judge on Friday.

Last July, Te'bryis Robi
nson, 19, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and aggravated battery.
The case dates back to March 18, 2022, when shots were fired inside the mall, sending people running for cover. TrenJ'vious Hutton, 14, was hit. Witnesses tried to save him, but he died at the scene.

Police said Robinson, who was 16 at the time, fired the shots over an ongoing dispute with some other people who were at the mall.
He was scheduled to be sentenced in September but then asked to withdraw his plea before that could happen.
After a hearing on Friday, Sedgwick County District Judge Jeffrey Goering said he did not hear enough evidence to allow Robinson to withdraw the plea.
