The New Jersey Italian Heritage Commission expects a full house Saturday for a ‘Jazz Italian Style’ Spring Conference at Rutgers University College Student Center.
Joseph Pucciatti, a Trenton-born teacher, pianist, conductor and composer, joins an expert panel discussion that includes acclaimed
jazz musicologist Will Friedwald and Rutgers Institute of Jazz’s Senior Archivist and Senior Digital Preservation Strategist Vincent Pelote.
Boheme Opera Artistic Director Maestro Pucciatti serves as moderator for a deep-dive into the historical ties between Italy and jazz. This educational segment will highlight the Italian roots that helped shape this iconic music genre followed by a Q&A.
Music performances, expert insights, and historical connections of Italy to jazz, aligns perfectly with the NJIHC’s mission to preserve, educate and celebrate Italian heritage and its contributions to the arts and culture.
Hamilton’s Dr. Gilda Rorro, NJIHC chairwoman emeritus, will provide an overview of the event theme, including the impact of Italian artists on the development of jazz, and underscore the importance of cultural preservation through education and music.
In collaboration with The Amistad Commission the talented student jazz musicians from Governor Livingston High School will kick off the event with renditions of songs by iconic Italian Jazz artists, showcasing the next generation of jazz talent and their connection to Italian heritage.
The day culminates with a performance by celebrated Italian American jazz performer Vanessa Racci and her band. Racci, known for her innovative style and passionate interpretations, delights in retro jazz, storytelling, and music made famous by Italian Americans. ...read more read less
