SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A puppy who was found near Boland School on Armory Street in Springfield had to be euthanized due to the severity of her injuries.
A post by the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center on Thursday showed graphic images of a puppy, who they named Bernadet
te, suffering from burn-type injuries. They said that over 80% of her hind end was necrotic with significant signs of infection.
Less than 24 hours after assessing Bernadette's condition, the organization had to euthanize the puppy. "After a discussion with the veterinary team and supervision, a decision was made to move forward with humane euthanasia. This decision was not made lightly, but took into consideration her poor prognosis (even with 24-hour care and specialists), the pain of recovery, and the significant extent of the damage," the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center said in a Facebook post.
They are reaching out to the community for information regarding Bernadette. If you know this dog you are urged to contact the shelter at 413-781-1484 extension 1.
