The Spurs take on Karl-Anthony Towns and the Knicks Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be
cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs finish up their mini home stand tonight, basking in the reflected glow of Wednesday night’s unexpected rout over one of the Eastern Conference’s top contending teams. The Knicks definitely missed having Jalen Brunson to run their offense, but nobody was prepared for Sandro Mamukelashvili’s unexpected domination as the Silver and Black buried New York in an avalanche of Georgian triples. For all intents and purposes, the Spurs season ended when Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox were ruled out, but performances like last night are why it’s still fun to watch the games as a fan of the team. It’s probably in the best interest of the team to not win a whole lot of games, but as a fan, you love to see the unexpected wins when they happen.
Tonight, the Silver and Black face a team that somehow has been even more decimated by injuries to key players than the Spurs, and the Sixers are somehow back in the old ‘trust the process’ days again, even though it’s really no longer reasonable to trust the process. Joel Embiid hobbled through the season on one leg way too long before he was finally shut down for the season at the end of February. There are a total of 10 players on the injury list for the Sixers tonight, but the good news is that Lonnie Walker has been upgraded to Probable after missing a few games with a concussion. It will be nice to see Lonnie return to the Frost Bank Center after bouncing around to the Lakers, Nets, Celtics, and finally the Sixers. He’s a player that can either be invisible or go thermonuclear at times, so he’s going to be interesting to watch.
Game Prediction:
Sandro Mamukelashvili and Lonnie Walker take over the game late as they both take over the finisher role, with Sandro sinking the game winner from the mid-court logo.
One final word:
GO SPURS GOOOO!!!
