2 men arrested on drug charges outside Newport gas station

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have arrested two New Bedford men accused of trying to sell crack cocaine in a Newport gas station parking lot.
Kolby McCoy, 25, and Jacques Jeanty, 21, were taken into custody outside the 7-Eleven on Memorial Boulevard Thursday afternoon.

ntified McCoy as a suspect in an ongoing narcotics investigation and received word that he would be heading to the gas station to sell crack cocaine.

Police said detectives set up surveillance outside the gas station and boxed McCoy's car in with their cruisers once he pulled into the parking lot.
McCoy hit two parked cars and got his vehicle stuck in a wood pile while attempting to drive off, according to police. He got out of his car and took off running, but was quickly apprehended.
Jeanty, who was sitting in the passenger's seat of McCoy's car, was taken into custody without incident.
McCoy has been charged with possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, controlled substance conspiracy, reckless driving and obstructing an officer in the line of duty. Jeanty has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine and controlled substance conspiracy.
The two parked cars McCoy hit were occupied, but police said no one was injured.
McCoy and Jeanty faced a judge Friday and were both ordered held without bail. Their next court date is slated for March 25.
