Kentucky women advance to round of 32, defeating Liberty 7978

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – “Survive and advance” was the name of the game for the cats on Friday. 4-seed Kentucky barely escaped 13-seed Liberty 79-78, advancing to the round of 32 for the first time since 2021.
Kentucky led comfortably for most of the game. Until Teonni Key and Clara
Strack fouled out in the final few minutes, and the flames went on a 12-5 run to bring things to a one-point game with the clock winding down.
With eight seconds left, Clara Silva forced a Liberty turnover and gave Kentucky the chance to hold on.
Kentucky’s offense was sparked by Georgia Amoore. Amoore finished with a whopping 34 points, which ties the NCAA Tournament scoring record; A’dia Mathies had held that record alone since 2013.
Two more cats finished in double figures. Dazia Lawrence tallied 16 points and Clara Strack had a double-double, 15 points and 10 boards.
Next up, 4-seed Kentucky will play 5-seed Kansas State on Sunday in the round of 32 at Historical Memorial Coliseum.
