"The students have the opportunity to get to engage with local experts," co-founder and instructor Brijonnay Madrigal said.
"They're involved in marine mammal science that includes nonprofits and NOAA. There are so many field trips that the students get to be involved in, and that includes being part of marine mammal surveys, learning what it's like to be on the water with these animals, as well as engage with a variety of organizations like Dolphin Quest. And so not only learning what it's like to study wild animals but also animals in managed care settings."
Along with the field trips, students will be able to do in classroom lectures with the Marine Mammal Research Program.

"They're also learning how to actually analyze some of the data that we collect from drones and passive acoustic recordings. Yeah, lots of activities, and lots of bonding experiences, too. We play lots of games at the end of the evening," said co-founder and instructor Kirby Parnell.
The program runs from June 10 to June 19 and will be an opportunity for high school students from historically marginalized groups to learn about marine mammal science, marine protected areas, and conservation.
"Looking for current tenth and eleventh-grade students, so incoming juniors and seniors," Madrigal said. "And we're looking for just passionate students that are excited about the ocean and learning more about marine science and learning more about marine mammals. We're just looking in those applications for students that are passionate when they're answering those short essay questions as part of the application."
