White Marsh library branch to temporarily close for renovations until late summer

Baltimore County Public Library’s White Marsh Branch will be closed from March 31 to late summer for upgrades to the meeting room, bathrooms and children’s area. This will be the branch’s second renovation since its 1988 opening, following a minor renovation in 2014.To meet the needs of users
, the library system will evolve with modern technology, said Baltimore County Public Library CEO Sonia Alcántara-Antoine.
“From quiet study spaces to vibrant meeting areas for gathering and creating, our branches must be flexible, adaptable, accessible and inclusive- creating libraries that not only meet the needs of the 21st century but also inspire and empower generations to come,” Alcántara-Antoine said in a statement.The White Marsh Branch renovations will include updated restrooms, a strengthened children’s section with interactive play elements, tables and seating for young children and teenagers, and a modernized family restroom with an adult changing room. Along with that the library will have a more welcoming meeting room with better flooring, lighting and new state of the art audio-visual equipment for its over 100,000 annual customers. The approximately 15,000-square-foot building will also soon have a full-color electronic LED sign for messages along Honeygo Boulevard.
The renovations are estimated to cost $740,000 and will be funded by the Baltimore County Government and their library fund balance. The upgrades to the children’s area are funded by the Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library.
