DEC plans prescribed burns throughout New York State

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Prescribed burns will be conducted at certain state forests and preserves throughout New York.
Prescribed burns are controlled fires used to improve a land's habitat and wildlife. These are required to be safely conducted.
The New York State Department of Environment
al Conservation will be conducting these prescribed burns on its managed lands starting in March until early May. These include Rush Oak Openings Unique Area in Monroe County, Sonyea State Forest in Livingston County, and multiple areas of Steuben County.
Specific dates for these prescribed burns have not been announced yet.
